Union Street endorses
May 15, 2008 by Andrew
I’m breaking a long-standing ban on political announcements on this blog to let it be known that Union Street has endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
Press conference, 9am tomorrow. What, no interest? Ok, geez, never mind.
I voted for Obama in the Democratic primary. However, I didn’t mind an extended race for the nomination, partly because I just think it’s a form of disenfranchisement when everything is settled by Super Tuesday. I’ve participated in a number of elections where my vote had absolutely no meaning, and that’s disappointing. I also thought Obama, in particular, would be strengthened by a longer primary campaign and be better prepared for the general election - although I may take that back, a bit.
That being said, there’s little point in prolonging this any further - this horserace has been less than edifying, and in some ways scarily illuminating of how deep certain divisions remain. So, it’s time to bring this puppy to a close, and while part of me has no interest in what John Edwards has to say, if his endorsement will help solidify the party around Obama I’d be forever grateful.
